How wonderful to be pregnant. You are waiting for that little blue line to appear right through to D-Day when you hold your tiny little newborn baby in your arms.

Of course, the nine months in between will change your lives forever. You may choose a home birth or maybe a Birthing Centre; there are plenty around. Eastbourne Birthing Centre is fabulous.

Sometimes the security of a hospital can put your mind at ease. Pembury Maternity Unit gives you the advantage of having a private room, and the delivery suite is more like a hotel room. Hastings Maternity Unit is equal distance from Heathfield as Pembury, so we are very spoilt from choice.

I used to love every prenatal appointment as it would mean I could listen to my baby's little heart beating away.

Every scan meant another chance to see your baby, watching it move around, maybe sucking its thumb, or giving a little kick, making the little person inside become real.

I have four children, all grown up now, but believe it or not; I only have one pregnancy photograph of myself taken while on a walk.

How I wish in 1986 having your bump photographed was in fashion. I would certainly have had my photograph taken.

It's not something I would put on the mantlepiece, of course, but I would undoubtedly hang one of the artistic images in a special place.

After all, your pregnancy is not just about you and your partner; it includes your baby as well.
